The bus route from Samará to Curubandé goes via Nicoya and Liberia.
Two snapshots from the bus station in Liberia.
Parque Nacional Rincon de la Vieja. Trail through the volcanic part.
Rio Blanco - Surroundings of Curubandé
Parque Nacional Rincon de la Vieja. The waterfall trail.
El Sol Verde, a lodge and a campground, located in the little village
Curubandé.
El Sol Verde (the green sun) is run by a gracious, helpful and charming Dutch couple. The rooms are very basic, but absolutely perfect (!), every breakfast is a delicious surprise.
It is only a 10km. drive to the entrance
of National Park Rincón de la Vieja. ‘El Sol Verde‘ therefore is a good
starting
point to make excursions to this magnificent piece of nature. You can
hike the famous "Las Pailas" trail and see boiling mud, bubbling lakes
and steaming vents or hike to one of the waterfalls and have a
refreshing swim. Besides this you can take a Canopy-tour, go tubing,
kayaking and horsebackriding, or relax in the beautiful hotsprings.
Attention: The restaurant a few steps away is cheap, but extremely getting used to.
